NJSFWC Invites Patient Advocates from Health Care Connect to Conduct Workshop
Atlantic City, NJ – The NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs will be holding their 117th Annual Convention on May 2-4 2011 at the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City, NJ. NJSFWC President Patricia Whitehouse invited Jacqueline O’Doherty, Certified Patient Advocate from Health Care Connect, to conduct a workshop on patient empowerment on Monday May 2, 2011.
This workshop is designed to help the growing number of patients and family members who are overwhelmed and frustrated by the medical continuum. Participants learn how to utilize the healthcare system with greater confidence and success by effectively communicating their needs and coordinating patient care. Patient advocates help navigate the healthcare system, sorting through confusing and complex situations, enabling patients to make educated decisions concerning their diagnosis and prognosis. Patient advocates also assist their clients in discharge management, finding resources to facilitate rehabilitation, follow up care and long term care options.
Health Care Connect’s Patient Advocates also act as geriatric care managers overseeing senior care either at home or in a senior residence. They are “feet on the ground” for long distance caregivers and the sandwich generation. Patient advocates are also a resource for the caregivers who struggle with the issues that confront them as they care for an aging parent or loved one.
Health Care Connect, LLC is a private patient advocacy geriatric care practice dedicated to empowering and guiding patients through the healthcare system. Jacqueline O’Doherty is the founder of Health Care Connect and practices out of Peapack, NJ
